Dr Peter Thomson MBBS, FRACS   

General Surgeon

A product of the Darling Downs, Dr Peter Thomson grew up in Toowoomba and graduated as the Dux of Harristown State High School in 1981. After receiving a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1987, Dr Thomson became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1998. He is also registered with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. 


Dr Thomson is a qualified general surgeon with extensive experience in endoscopic procedures. He is recognised by the Conjoint Committee for Recognition in Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) to perform colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures. Dr Thomson is also currently recertified with the GESA Colonoscopy Recertification program, as required by the federal ACSQHC Colonoscopy Clinical Care Standards.  


His clinical interests include:

• Gastroscopies 
• Colonoscopies 
• Colorectal surgery 
• Gastrointestinal and gallbladder surgery 
• Hernia surgery 
• Skin cancer surgery 
• Thyroid surgery

 

Dr Thomson’s rooms are located at St Vincent’s Private Hospital; however he regularly operates at both St Vincent’s and St Andrew’s Private Hospitals in Toowoomba. His strong commitment to rural and regional health is also reflected by his weekly outreach service to Warwick on the Darling Downs.


In his spare time, Dr Thomson enjoys spending time with his family and flying vintage war birds – he is a licensed pilot with over 20 years of experience.
